What Do You Want People to Say About Your Business?

If someone was to ask you about the difference between reputation and character what would you say?

Have you heard of the popular term reputation management?

Let’s dive into the definitions and how it applies to your business success.
Reputation is the estimation or the belief of what a person or thing is according to the community or general public.

Character is the combination of features and traits that form the individual nature of some person or thing.

Another way to put it is your reputation is what people believe you to be, and your character is how you truly live. When the two are out of alignment, people will feel deceived or let down when reality tarnishes the image. People become jaded and lose trust and faith in the person, product or organization that they once honored. When reputation and character are in alignment, people gain trust, have more grace, a stronger alliance and a higher respect for the person, product or organization.

Be authentic. You don’t need to “pretend”. We have had clients wonder why they are attracting clients that are not ideal or in their target market. Their messaging was off. They should still stay true to themselves, but also convey who they truly are so they do attract the right people and grow a business the right way.

  1. Decide who you want to be?
Take a piece of paper and write out “ I am a person ________” By filling in the blanks, you are determining who you are.

  1. Talk about it.

Sit down with a friend and talk about yourself and success that you dream and envision. When you talk about your future self in the current tense, you are more likely to fulfill it. It may be a bit awkward, but you will truly enjoy it!

What we want to mention is do not forget who you are; what your character is. It is common to lose track.

For example, you want to build a real estate empire that 7 figures every year. What does your day to day life look like? Then have your friend ask who you are. Talk about yourself as if you are making the 7 figures and all that you are up to living that life. What character and reputation will you have through it all? How will you convey it and have it be known?

  1. Reflection time “Am I being the person I want to be?”
It is vital to take the time and reflect if your daily actions are moving one step closer or one step further away from whom you are desiring to be. Are you losing track of what really matters to you in life?

I have to admit, I was at a speaking engagement and missed out on my child’s first dance. It was devastating. Yes, I was moving forward with my dreams but lost track of what really mattered. That was out of character of me.

Reputation management is a hot trend. Companies will come and watch what is being said about you and or your company. If you are not active online, someone else may be and could be causing more harm than good.
